Teachers and Students from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University Started the 2023 Summer Practice Activities in Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research

With the support of the Qingdao West Coast New Area Talent Recruitment Center, the Academy has cooperated with local industries to jointly build a bridge to accelerate industrial development in the summer practice activities, so as to improve the training of interdisciplinary and cross-industry innovative talents and serve the local industrial and economic development in Qingdao. Based on the philosophy of combining the specialty with industry and paying equal attention to research and practice, the teachers and students have been arranged to conduct on-site inspections and surveys in various local enterprises and institutions in Qingdao during these activities. The teachers and students visited well-known enterprises (such as Doublestar Tire, Aucma, Hisense, Langyatai, etc.) within three weeks to carry out inspections and research.

The first stop of these activities is to visit the Planning Exhibition Hall of West Coast New Area, which provides students with a macro picture of local industry and economic development (including such key information as the development process, regional planning, current industrial layout, and future vision of West Coast New Area of Qingdao). In this way, the students have deeply identified and understood related issues in the process of the survey, laying a solid foundation for studying related industries in Qingdao and accelerating their development.

On August 21, the students paid a visit to the Doublestar Group Co., Ltd. During the visit and survey activity, the students were informed of many important information about the Company, such as the R&D process, the application of testing technology, and the role of design thinking in product development. In order to accelerate the R&D of enterprises and promote the growth of industry and economy, Tsinghua University has introduced relevant resources for this survey, so as to provide different innovative ideas for enterprises by means of the cross-integration of relevant subject knowledge and R&D requirements of enterprises.

Visit Doublestar Group Co., Ltd.

On August 24, the students paid a visit to the Aucma Innovation Center in the West Coast New Area. The attention of the students has been attracted by the smart-home appliances in the exhibition hall. Based on their own professional knowledge, the students have raised relevant questions and provided meaningful suggestions, so that the Company can get familiar with the capability and professional characteristics of the future design talents, facilitate the introduction of high-end talents in the future, and finally accelerate the development of local industries.

Visit Aucma Group

On August 28, the students paid a visit to Hisense Group. After visiting the Design Innovation Exhibition Hall, the students learned about the operating environment and overall situation of the front-line design team in the Hisense Industrial Design Center. Mr. Wang Difei, general manager of Hisense Industrial Design Center, had a cordial conversation with the students. During this visit, the students learned more about the professional strength and top-notch innovative ideas of Hisense and deepened their understanding of the industry and the ability to identify industry problems. Through the exchange of human resources between Hisense and Tsinghua University, a good foundation can be laid for the promotion and development of the local household appliances industry and the supply of talent.

Conduct an In-depth Exchange with the Design Team of Hisense

Finally, the students visited the Langyatai Group and Bright Moon Seaweed Group on August 29. In Langyatai Group, guided by leaders of the Industrial Design Center, the students visited the exhibition hall and workshop of the Company and had exchanges and conversations with its leaders and design team members. In this way, the students not only broadened their horizons but also even formed their own views and put forward suggestions on product definition and innovation of the enterprise. During the visit of Bright Moon Seaweed Group, the students developed a new understanding of the application and transformation of bio-materials. Through the linkage between Tsinghua University, the Academy, and enterprises, the visits this time have promoted the innovative R&D concept of enterprises and also provided resource support for boosting the development and innovation of Qingdao’s food industry.

Visit Bright Moon Seaweed Group

As a part of the design project of summer practice, the students conducted a user-centered study on the use of scenario innovation, design empowerment, and lifestyle research around sports health. In this summer practice, we gathered innovative design talents from Tsinghua University and excellent expert teams and resources in the industry to study and produce cutting-edge lifestyle innovation ideas, guide industry trends, and promote industrial development.
